Hearing God’s Voice: Why Perfectionism Leaves You Confused | 027
What happens when you begin laying down performance, people-pleasing, and the pressure to prove yourself — but suddenly find yourself unsure whether you can trust what you hear from God?
For many Christian perfectionists, the voice they have followed for years sounds like, “Do more. Work harder. Be better. Then you’ll be accepted.” When that pressure begins to loosen, it can feel freeing — but also disorienting. You may start wondering whether the demanding voice you believed was God was ever truly His voice at all.
In this episode, I’m joined by prophetic healing coach, minister, author, and speaker Heather O’Brien for an honest conversation about fear of punishment, control, anger, people-pleasing, spiritual healing, and learning to recognize God’s voice through relationship rather than pressure. Heather shares how perfectionism affected her family, ministry, and confidence —and how the Holy Spirit helped her recognize what was driving her reactions.
Together, we explore what it means to experience God’s love instead of merely knowing about it, why renewing your mind is part of lasting freedom, and how hearing God begins with slowing down, asking Him questions, and learning how He personally communicates with you. You do not have to white-knuckle your way into obedience. God is inviting you to approach His throne of grace, receive His love, and learn to walk with Him one step at a time.

You struggle with anger or control when you feel unheard or powerless.
You love God but still feel as though you must fix yourself before approaching Him.
