Stuck in the How? Learn How to Trust in the Who, First | 003

Have you ever sensed God leading you toward something that felt far bigger than your experience, qualifications, or ability? Instead of feeling excited, you immediately began asking questions: How will I do this? What if I fail? What if people discover I am not qualified? What if I disappoint God?

For Christian perfectionists, not knowing how can feel especially unsettling. We often believe we need a complete plan before we can take the next step. Beneath that need for certainty may be a fear of failure, a desire for control, or the belief that our value depends on how well we perform. Before long, fear and perfectionism begin working together, leaving us overwhelmed, overthinking, and struggling with imposter syndrome.

But God does not ask us to have every answer before we move forward. He invites us to shift our attention from the how to the Who. In this episode, we will learn how to recognize the beliefs underneath our anxious reactions, renew our minds with God’s truth, and remember that the One who called us is also capable of guiding us.

You do not have to carry the entire process or control the outcome. You can place your trembling hand into the steady hand of God and trust Him to show you the next step.

Scriptures Mentioned

Isaiah 30:21

“This is the way, walk in it.”

This truth is echoed in the opening story as Leneé describes receiving God’s direction toward an opportunity that felt beyond her qualifications.

Matthew 25:14–30

The parable of the talents is referenced as an encouragement to invest and use what God has placed in your hands.

Hebrews 4:15

“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

This passage reminds us that Jesus understands our fears, weaknesses, worries, and doubts.

Isaiah 41:13

“For I, the Lord thy God, will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.”

God is not standing far away while we struggle. He comes close, takes our hand, and promises to help us.

Proverbs 3:5–6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

This passage becomes a prayer for the moments when we are tempted to panic and obsess over how everything will work out.

Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

Peace begins to return when we shift our attention away from our fears and back onto God.

Romans 12:2

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

God invites us into genuine transformation by changing the thoughts and beliefs shaping our responses.

Philippians 4:8

“Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Rather than allowing fear-based thoughts to control us, we can intentionally focus our minds on what is true.

2 Corinthians 10:4–5

This passage teaches that the spiritual weapons God gives us can tear down strongholds, challenge anything that contradicts the knowledge of God, and bring our thoughts into obedience to Christ.
